Installing ezScriptWriter
Make sure that no other applications are running. Insert the ezScriptWriter CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive or start the downloaded executable (if received via download).
If the Installer does not start automatically from the CD, click the Windows Start button and choose Run. Click Browse, locate setup.exe on the CD-ROM and click Open. Click OK. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
After installation is complete, you can start ezScriptWriter by clicking on the icon found on your Windows XP Desktop or from the Start/Programs list.

FIRST-TIME INSTALLATION  (assumes no current patient database exists)

·    Insert CD in CDRom drive (duh!) and wait for setup to begin

·    If setup does not start automatically, use Windows Explorer to open the CD drive folder and double-click “Setup.exe”

·    Follow the installation prompts until setup ends

·    Occasionally pop-up error messages may occur asking about a “Read Only” file; click re-try and the program should continue

·    Rarely a pop-up message may state that a certain file couldn't be registered or other problem was detected.  Generally, this may mean that a program might be in use already.  Shut down all applications that might be running and attempt to try the installation again.  In some cases, simply clicking “Ignore” on the error box is sufficient.

·    If requested, restart computer before attempting to use ezScriptWriter

·    Once the setup program has completed, find the desktop icon for ezScriptWriter and double click.

BEFORE USING WITH PATIENTS

·    Read the Software License Agreement

·    Understand your requirements to preserve patient confidentiality (i.e. to use secure passwords and limit access to your computer network)

·    Design a sensible backup plan (low cost options could include: NTI Backup NOW! 4.0, FirstBackup online backup service, or just plain CD-R discs copied manually).

CUSTOMIZATION OF SETTINGS

·    Another setup wizard should appear, this one allowing you to customize ezScriptWriter settings.  This utility is called “Setup Wizard” and can be run at any time by the ADMINISTRATOR to reset or reconfigure you settings.

·    Follow the prompts, paying close attention to file paths.  At the minimum, one provider name must be entered at the “user's screen.”   Currently, there is a maximum of 10 assigned users (some users can share a guest account however).

·    Once the wizard has finished, you are ready to start ezScriptWriter

FIRST TIME USER/PASSWORD SETUP
Before using ezScriptWriter the first time a password needs to be established (this is done individually for all workstations).  On the main login screen, choose “Password Options” and enter your username as the password (the assigned username is first initial plus last name”.  Enter a new password and re-enter to confirm (losing or forgetting a password would be bad, very bad – currently no way to retrieve!).  If you leave the password section blank, you will default to no password (not recommended!).  You will be returned to the login screen.
Installing ezScriptWriter from the Internet
The same instructions as above apply, except that you must first download the software to your computer.  Run the setup wizard that appears and follow the on-screen directions.
